Celebrate the inaugural Barbero Border Clash XC Invitational and one of Spokane’s true cross country originals.

Named in honor of legendary local coach and lifelong runner Bob Barbero, this race celebrates more than four decades of coaching, championship teams, countless miles, and a lasting impact on the Spokane running community. Coach Barbero led University High School to three consecutive state championships, earned a place in the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame, and has completed every Bloomsday since the race began in 1977.

From competing in Spokane himself to coaching generations of local runners, Coach Barbero has spent a lifetime around the sport—and the Border Clash is a fitting excuse to add a few more miles to the legacy.
